Species Breakdown

% Common name Scientific name Height (cm) Germination time Germination temperature
15% Perennial ryegrass (4n) Lolium perenne 4 n 10–50 5–10 days 20–30 °C
20% Perennial ryegrass Lolium perenne 10–50 5–10 days 20–30 °C
5% Slender creeping red fescue Festuca rubra trichophylla 15–50 12–22 days 10–18 °C
40% Red fescue Festuca rubra rubra 20–60 14–21 days 10–20 °C
20% Kentucky bluegrass Poa pratensis 20–50 14–30 days 15–30 °C
Note: The small proportion of ryegrass supports rapid germination and quicker early green-up. Field outcomes remain execution dependent: seedbed preparation, consistent moisture, and irrigation discipline are the key performance levers during the first weeks after installation.

Establishment — Typical Timeline

Milestone Typical timing
Germination 2–4 weeks (ideal conditions)
First cut At 8–10 cm (site-dependent)
First use Limited after ~3–4 weeks
Normal foot traffic After 3–5 mowing cycles

Field performance depends on seedbed preparation, temperature and irrigation regime.

Germination — Lab Results

Test batch Germination (%)
Batch 1 99.2 %
Batch 2 99.5 %
Batch 3 99.7 %
Note: Occasionally, shortages of some varieties may occur throughout the season. Suitable alternatives may be used, and any changes will be shown on the bag label and technical datasheet.

Planting window & establishment

When to plant Triumph Classic grass seed mats

Triumph Classic is a biodegradable grass seed blanket designed to perform best in cool-season windows. Optimal timing and basic establishment steps significantly improve germination and long-term turf quality.

Optimal planting windows

Best results are obtained when seeding in the early spring or fall, when daily temperatures range between 15 °C and 26 °C, as these conditions are ideal for seedling growth.

  • Spring planting: Plant in early spring when temperatures are between 12 °C and 26 °C. This allows time for the seed to grow and establish before facing the hot, dry conditions of summer.
  • Fall planting: Plant in late summer or early fall when daily temperatures are consistently between 18 °C and 26 °C. Fall is a great time for planting because the warm days and cool nights promote growth.

Establishment & early use

  • Care: Keep an eye on weeds and turf diseases, especially during the first weeks when the sward is still open and vulnerable.
  • Irrigation: Water is essential for germination. The seedbed must be kept consistently moist; if it dries out, germination will slow down significantly or stop completely.
  • Germination: Typically 2–4 weeks in ideal conditions.
  • First cut: When the grass reaches 8–10 cm, it may be ready to be mowed, usually within 2–4 weeks of planting, depending on conditions.
  • First use: Only allow limited use after 3–4 weeks. Everything depends on weather, time of year and how well the ground was prepared. The new lawn is only ready for full use once the roots have penetrated the soil and are well established.
  • Foot traffic & pets: Once you have mowed the lawn 3–5 times, it is generally ready for regular foot traffic. Keep pets away from newly planted areas, as seeds and young seedlings are delicate and easily damaged.

Timings above assume correct soil preparation, adequate nutrition and consistent watering. Local climate and site conditions can shorten or extend the establishment period.
