Species Breakdown

% Common name Scientific name Height (cm) Germination time Germination temperature
45% Tall fescue Festuca arundinacea 20–50 14 to 28 days Between 10 and 25 °C
20% Strong creeping red fescue Festuca rubra rubra 20–50 14 to 30 days Between 10 and 23 °C
10% Kentucky bluegrass Poa pratensis 20–50 14 to 30 days Between 15 and 30 °C
25% Perennial ryegrass Lolium perenne 10–50 5 to 10 days Between 15 and 23 °C
Note: The perennial ryegrass component accelerates germination and improves early green-up, while tall fescue and red fescue anchor drought resilience and density. Field outcomes remain execution dependent: seedbed preparation, consistent moisture, and irrigation discipline are the key performance levers during the first weeks after installation.

Establishment — Typical Timeline

Milestone Typical timing
Germination 2–4 weeks (ideal conditions)
First cut At 8–10 cm (site-dependent)
First use Limited after ~3–4 weeks
Normal foot traffic After 3–5 mowing cycles

Timing depends on temperature, moisture and how well the ground was prepared.

Batch 3 Available on request

Batch-level certificates can be shared for procurement alignment and QA documentation.

Note: Occasionally, shortages of some varieties may occur throughout the season. Suitable alternatives may be used, and any alteration to the mixture will be clearly shown on the bag label. The varieties are internationally tested by independent institutes, including in Scandinavian countries.

Planting window & establishment

When to plant Sunshine Hot grass seed mats

Sunshine Hot is positioned for sunny areas with a very drought-tolerant performance profile, dense and compact growth, and a strong ability to keep a nice green colour through dry months. It also grows well in sun and shade, and is engineered to recover well after wear and damage. To maximise establishment KPIs, execute installation in cool-season windows and maintain consistent moisture through the first weeks.

Optimal planting windows

Best results are obtained when seeding in the early spring or fall, when daily temperatures range between 15 °C and 26 °C, as these conditions are ideal for seedling growth.

  • Spring planting: Plant in early spring when temperatures are between 12 °C and 26 °C. This allows time for the seed to grow and establish before facing the hot, dry conditions of summer.
  • Fall planting: Plant in the late summer or early fall when daily temperatures are consistently between 18 °C and 26 °C. Fall is a great time for planting because the warm days and cool nights promote growth.

Establishment & early use

  • Care: Look out for weeds and diseases.
  • Irrigation: Necessary. Water is an essential part of the germination process. Without it, the process will slow down significantly and in worst-case scenarios may stop completely.
  • Germination: 2–4 weeks in ideal conditions.
  • First cut: At 8–10 cm, the lawn may be ready to be mowed within 2–4 weeks of planting (conditions dependent).
  • First use: Limited after 3–4 weeks. Timing depends on weather, time of year and how well the ground was prepared. Only once roots have penetrated the soil and established is the new lawn ready for broader use.
  • Foot traffic & pets: Once you have mowed the lawn 3–5 times, it is generally ready for foot traffic. Keep pets away from newly planted grass, as seeds and young seedlings are delicate and easily damaged.

Timings above assume correct soil preparation, adequate nutrition and consistent watering. Local climate and site conditions can shorten or extend the establishment period.
